Reduce, Reuse, HEIZR Recycling Club
If you told me about going to a junkyard to see a bunch of old cars, I would assume that those cars are to be scrapped - but that is certainly not the case for my trip to HEIZR Recycling Club.
Quite the contrary - I made my way to Stuttgart to a riverside recycling facility to celebrate everything we love about car culture, and to have a surreal experience with one of Germany’s most unique classic car event organizers.
HEIZR Club has to be one of the chillest big automotive events out there in Germany, but it’s certainly not ordinary. Each time I went to their event, I managed to be blown away by the concept and how dissonant the experience is.
The venue for HEIZR Recycling Club at Kaatsch Recyclinghof felt so entropic yet intentional. The junk and classic cars - some of the priceless - blend in to create some of the most unique frames I could capture on camera. Cars aren’t spread around with no thought, and some sections are organized for cars of certain characteristics to create some harmony.
The attendance at HEIZR Recycling Club isn’t vetted - though the majority of the tickets are for older cars that are over 20 years - but what amazes me is how HEIZR Club always attracts the right audience with the sickest cars. From JDM legends like the AE86 to rally homologation specials like the Lancia Stratos, the attendance is full of cars for everybody’s taste.
Though naturally, Porsche really dominates the scene.
Among the curated displays are some of the most iconic and rare cars from German OEMs, like the Porsche 908, E36 BMW 320i STW touring car and Mercedes-Benz C111 prototype. The support from the local German OEMs is insane!
Another unique aspect to HEIZR Recycling Club is that the event is split between two venues across each other, split by the Neckar river where a classic racer boat does some show runs.
HEIZR Club always amazed me with some out of the box thinking for their events, and this summer’s main event at HEIZR Recycling Club certainly is no different - I can’t wait to see what the Stuttgart based crew has in mind next.
